About

Sienna Takabe (b. 1998) is a Japanese American artist based in Miami. Her work combines the girlish naivety of Tokyo Harajuku with a greater darkness present in global culture, one that seeks to undermine and sexualize femininity at large. She is interested in the intersection of these disparate aesthetics, using them in tandem to create clothes that empower the wearer, while critiquing larger cultural trends. Her day job as a designer for a Miami based evening wear label has informed her practice, which is centered around using highly technical garment construction and fine technique to create unconventional and idiosyncratic clothing.
